My husband is home then, so I can go by myself, which is a lot faster and less costly. I use a list that remains on our refrigerator at all times. I call it the perpetual food list. Anyone who finishes something or who has a request can write it on the list. I also think about what meals I will make for the week and check my recipes for ingredients we might not have. If planning meals is difficult for you, try to make a list of fourteen meals that your family will eat. If you can’t think of that many, try ten at least.

Typically, I don’t schedule clients for Monday or Friday, but if I must, I can do my cleaning or laundry on one of the other days. Recently, I spent an entire Monday with my son, going to doctors and getting a cast put on. And guess what? I easily skipped cleaning that week because I knew I could get it done the following week. I didn’t have to worry about buying food for dinner that night or doing the laundry because it was already planned out for the week. I could focus on the situation at hand, which was taking care of my son.
